Natural Gas Coming to Holdingford
By October of this year, natural gas will be piped throughout the City of Holdingford and Opole.
Greater Minnesota Gas will run a pipe from Upsala to the county line, and Xcel Energy will pipe it from there to Holdingford and beyond.
The main lines will run along the streets and alleys and from the main line to the homes and businesses. Xcel Energy will bring the lines to the residents and businesses, and install the meters.
The first 75 feet and meter will be free. Anything over 75 feet will cost $3.50 per foot.
It will be up to each home owner to have a qualified person bring the line into the home and hook up furnaces, water heaters, etc.

We will be having sign up meetings in the near future in which everything will be explained including the amount of savings using natural gas.
There will be a mailing to let everyone know when these meetings will occur.

Farm to School grants bring local food to Holdingford students
The Holdingford school district is hoping to expand its ability to incorporate food grown on Minnesota farms into student meals with new Farm to School grant funding.
The district currently serves locally grown corn and cabbage, according to Minnesota Department of Agriculture spokesperson Michael Crusan.
To begin serving more types of food, the district needed some kitchen upgrades. So they plan to purchase kitchen supplies and light processing equipment through a combination of their own money and grant funds from the MDA and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
MDA Commissioner Dave Frederickson joined Minnesota Department of Education Deputy Commissioner Jessie Montano, Blue Cross Blue Shield representative Kristi Probst, Holdingford school staff and local farmers at an award program Friday at the school. They toured the kitchen and school garden.
Holdingford was one of 15 districts in the state to receive 2014 Farm to School grant funds.
Crusan said with almost $4,000 the district will purchase sheet pans, knives, serving trays and storage equipment, among other items, to increase its capability to serve locally grown food.
Holdingford serves about 575 breakfasts and about 835 lunches each day, he said.
"They are hoping to increase the frequency of food purchased through Minnesota growers by 50 percent," Crusan said.
Grants were created with legislation that established the Agricultural Growth, Research and Innovation Program.

HOLDINGFORD — Holdingford’s water system is expected to be ready for the future after completion of about $4.5 million in water and street improvements.
City Engineer Scott Lange said there are three aspects to the work. Much of the processing equipment in the city’s wastewater treatment plant will be replaced, water and sewer mains on all city streets north of Washington Street and east of the Two Rivers river, except county roads and North High Court, will be replaced. New water meters will be installed to ensure accurate meter readings and billing, Lange said, and affected streets will be resurfaced when the work is done.
The city’s wastewater treatment plant was built in the early 1990s. The city’s water and sewer lines are more than 50 years old with some inching toward the 75-year mark, he said.
“The equipment is just worn out and needs to be replaced,” Lange said. “It’s a nice project. From a water quality perspective, (residents) will notice a difference.”
There also will be better water connections for firefighters and improved flow throughout the city, he said.
Replacement of the water and sewer mains started at the end of May. Improvements to the wastewater treatment plant will begin midsummer and the plan is for the new water meters to be in place this fall.
The goal is for contractors to complete all work near October or November, Lange said. A public meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Holdingford City Hall to provide the community with project updates.
Public meetings will be at 6 p.m. every Wednesday throughout the duration of the project.
The USDA Rural Development program is funding the project with a $3,873,000 loan and a $578,000 stimulus grant

Ice Skating in Central Mn
Want to go ice skating ? You won't find a better skating rink than the one in Holdingford. Lots of ice and plenty of close free parking. The City maintence Dept. did a good job creating and upkeeping this rink. Come and enjoy !!

Covered Bridge Project Started
Great start on the bridge project, NO SNOW ! 40 degrees and windy but people can deal with that. There are about 40 people planting trees along the trail, another group staining boards for the bridge, that was donated by Valspar, and of course the Army Reserves are doing a great job on the bridge. Pictures with be coming later.

Holdingford awarded $10,000 grant by Initiative Foundation
The city of Holdingford awarded $10,000 grant by Initiative Foundation
The city of Holdingford through Healthy Community Planning Program was granted $10,000 in support of the following community projects:
*Assist Holdingford Lions Club covered bridge project on Lake Wobegon trail.
*Holdingford Lioness Club in conjunction with the City of Holdingford and Holding Township compile a Welcome Packet for new residents in the Holdingford Area. Lioness Club will also develop and distribute brochures about the community of the City of Holdingford and Holding Township, to new residents moving into area.
*Holdingford Area Historical Society
Holdingford Area Historical Society will be incorporated as a non-profit organization. Historical Society will be incorporated as a non-profit organization, to be officially recognized by the MN Historical Society. Secure rights to a one room schoolhouse from the holdingford area, plans and have blueprint for foundation for schoolhouse.
*Petals to Pedals Garden Club
Two park benches will be installed between fountain and "Triangle Garden."Install fountain, electric outlets for fountain and for Christmas decoration. Expand wild flower garden at trailhead: benches, holding pond for fountain, lawn in front of garden.
*Healthy Community Planning Steering Committee

New Skateboarding Park
Here is another cool project. Andrew Piasecki's dream has come to reality. He wanted to build a skate board park for the City of Holdingford as a Eagle Scout project. He worked through the local H.I.P. committee. Which if you remember got started with training and a grant from the Initiative Foundation. He raised funds from a number of local businesses and organizations including the American Legion, Lions Club, Sno Flyers Club, The Hair Salon, Two Rivers Enterprise donated steel and developer Tim Berscheid has donated a half pipe. The other pieces of equipment include a grind rail, grind box, quarter pipe and launch ramp, that were built by Andrew and friends. It all sits on top of a 30’ x 50’ concrete slab. Good job Andrew! I know the young folks around here will put this to good use.

More Holdingford Daze
A nice article in the St. Cloud Times today about Holdingford Daze . It was a beautiful day and turn out of people. They should have stayed for the polka mass, and the fireman's porkchop dinner, it was good as always... The street dance was packed with people, listening and dancing to the music of the band "Keystones". The fireworks were spectular !! Many folks who have grown up and moved away come back to visit old friends.

Caramel Roll Ride Announcement !

It must be spring , even if we are expecting another snowstorm. Because the City of Holdingford's SPRING CLEANUP has been set for Saturday JUNE 16th 8:am to 12:00 pm. This is a service provided by the City of Holdingford , for the residents of the City . It will be located by the lake Wobegon Trail Head as usual. Also some items may be disposed of for no charge and for some there is a nominal fee to cover the cost charged by the refuse company. Those prices are yet to be set.
